What We Are Reading: Summer Library Haul

Updated: Jul 10

Hello from the Meck family! We have been so busy around here that I haven't had enough time to keep up with the blog. Today, we are all cooped up with a cold, so I am taking the time to share our latest library book haul with you. We went to the library last week for story time & new books! These are books geared toward 3 and 5-year-olds (as that is how old Bubs and Sofie are), but Sofia has been getting into chapter books lately, so there are some of those as well. Hopefully, this post will give you some ideas for the next time you make it to the library or bookstore!

Note: all books are linked to Google. This is just in case you want to see more about the book and where you can find it. It is not an affiliate link.

A little about our Library Trip

Now that it is summer, we have been going to the library more than usual. We have tons of extra time to fill now that the kids are not going to preschool. Our local library does a weekly story time, so we have been attending those and checking out new books each time. It has been fun! The library even hosts different entertainers for kids during the summer such as a bubble scientist, a magician, and a reptile expert. Definitely check out your local library if you are needing a free and engaging activity for your kids. Here are some photos from our recent visits.

The kids have got to pet a variety of reptiles and create giant bubbles all thanks to our library. They are providing us with the best experiences this summer!

Bubba's Picks (Age 3)

Bubba did an awesome job picking out books this week. Now that we are going more he is really getting into the routine of finding books on his own. He chose based on the cover, so I read him the title, what it was about, and then a couple of pages to him before he decided to bring it home. He looks for silly books so he was very pleased when he found these. Here are all the books Bubba chose. 👇🏼

  1. Truck Full of Ducks by Ross Burach

  2. Do Pirates Take Baths? by Kathy Tucker *is literally so cute*

  3. Maisy Drives the Bus by Lucy Cousins

Sofia's Picks (Age 5)

Sofia came to the library on a mission for Fairy books and she found them! We recently made a fairy garden in the back yard and she has been fascinated with them ever since. The two books she found are chapter books. We read our library books together before bed every night, so the fact that she can't read them on her own isn't a problem. We actually have grown to love the cliffhangers at the end of a chapter. It gets us excited to read again the next night. Before we left the library, Sofia spotted a cute little picturebook on the shelf and snagged that as well. Overall, she had a pretty good haul! We will be busy reading this week to get through them all.

library books for girls age 5 and up

  1. Katie the Kitten Fairy by Daisy Meadows

  2. Stella and the Night Sprites by Sam Hay

  3. A Kiss Like This by Mary Murphy
